Myrtle Beach Triple Crown Tournament

The Triple Crown tournament down in Myrtle Beach South Carolina was a blast! We have a bunch of stories, but I want to highlight our pitchers of course.

We played some of the best competition around! After doing some scouting before our first game, it was clear that teams were SCORING RUNS! 20-1, 12-0, 19-0! Young Guns pitchers for both our Navy and Carolina teams were able to neutralize those offenses. Here’s why:

100% of the teams we faced were cheating first pitch fastball! Our strategy was to go with offspeed early and attack with velocity INSIDE late. Most hitters were also cheating outside corner with their toes on the white line of the batter’s box! I give the boys a lot of credit. They pitched at a very high level. I say that because this strategy increases the risk of walks, unless you hav…

This week’s article is about discipline and trust in your program. I train a lot of different kids. They are all shown a hip routine, spine routine, neck routine, shoulder routine, chest, bands, plyos, throwing etc. About 3% of them are able to come in and get right to work OR do the extra reps at home when no one is watching. Today we will highlight the work ethic of Joey Martino and Connor Hafto.

Joey Martino: Joey is a very smart kid. He’s able to listen and do what he’s told the first time. If he doesn’t understand he will ask for a demonstration, and then it clicks. He’s got it. This week Joey won an award at his school called the Gold Fitness award. Only 1 was given out to his grade which he received, and only 4 in the entire school! Joey is a great athlete, but…

Almost a year in the making. Colt Troilo started training with me last July. I approcahed his mother in my gym parking lot! Four Seasons in Glassboro, the best! Cait Troilo was a division 1 catcher, so I was very excited to work with her son! Colt was tough to work with at first. Tough is an understatement...he used to throw his bat and baseballs at me! He takes a while to warm up to people so we struggled to communicate in the beginining. It took a month before he would fist bump me! Here we are 10 months latrer and I can't even explain the changes he's made. Colt went from throwing 5/10 pitches NOWHERE NEAR the strike zone to being able to consistently throw strikes. I mean we would go to the park and play fetch instead of catch. When hitting, he used to swing and miss maybe…

Exciting topic this week. Self-talk! Some of you know I am currently studying to get my NASM CPT. The new Chapter I am reading is about Behavioral Coaching. So far the chapter has covered data tracking, goal setting, and motivation. But the negative self-talk jumped out to me. As an ex-collegiate athlete, I've been there many times. Hopefully some of the tips from the chapter and my past experiences give your kids some strategies to flip negative self-talk into positive.

Strategy 1: Avoid "Not"

Some common phrases when athletes are struggling are "I can't do this" or "I'm not good enough." Simply removing the "not" from the sentence completely flips the meaning and state of mind. "I can do this", "I am good enough", "I'm the best", "I worked hard for this, I'm ready." Give it a shot. It seems like players these days almost find it cool to throw…

High School Success

This week I want to highlight the success of 3 RR athletes; Andrew Pron, Killian McCaffrey,  and Connor Hafto.

Andrew Pron, Clearview, 2026

Rew and I go way back. I believe Rew was in 7th grade when we first started trianing. Rew played for All Out and I was a coach there. Monday through Friday I would run team workouts from 5pm-9pm. But I was still playing at Rowan at the time so I would typically throw at 4pm. Rew trained with me most days of the week. There was no RR at the time, we were just training partners! His progress since then is unbeliavebale. Yesterday, Rew got his first varsity start! A solid outing and he earned himself a spot in the rotation!

We spent the past few years training arm path mechanics and rhythm. The last thing we are missing is an increase in…

On March 9th my 13u Young Guns team ventured down to Shipyard Park in Charleston, South Carolina. The drive was about 10 hours. Smooth sailing honestly. We were scheduled to play that morning at 8AM but there was a terrential downpour. I didn't think we had any chance of playing. The games were pushed back to 1PM and sure enough we played! The fields looked untouched. The fields are all turf by the way. One of the coaches down there explained to me that their drainage system is second to none. I was amazed. Some very nice people down there and I enjoy hearing "y'all."

So fast forward to our first game of the season. We played a phenomenal team from Florida who was 15-3 before we even played our first game. They rushed our warm up, so we couldn't get to the cages pregame. I will blame the loss…

Hey everybody! I'm excited about the hard work these pitchers put in this winter. I want to highlight a couple players in particular.

Carter Schmidt - Carter has been training with me for a while now, but this year he took it to a new level. Carter just turned 12 and he was recently clocked at 63. I coach a high level 13u Young Guns team, some of our hardest throwing guys are around 61-63. He has some of the best mechanics I've ever seen. Carter cracks me up. He takes the game more seriously than some of my college teammates...and he's 12! It's clearly more than a game to him. I enjoy working with Carter because he respects both the training and myself. Some kids take these trainings for granted and go through the motions. Carter remembers every routine and progression that I teach him. He clearly greatly appreciates…

Good morning everyone. I'm very excited about the mechanical changes we've made when throwing the ball. Looking forward to a successful year on the mound and more importantly a HEALTHY year on the mound!
